CLUB CHAI BOOK

Role: Art Direction, Photography, Cultural Strategy,
What: An Archive Book
Where: Digital, Oakland CA
CLUB CHAI is a record label, event series, and curatorial project founded by Esra Canoğulları and Lara Sarkissian in Oakland, California. This curatorial platform and record label is a place in which some of the most creative and forward thinking artists can thrive. In addition to connecting artists globally, the founders throw parties under the CLUB CHAI label with the intention of carving out sounds and spaces that consider the ways they’ve built narratives as a reflection of their current and future selves.

I collaborated with the founders of CLUB CHAI and designer Peter Dolesik to create a comprehensive book that archives our work.  The book is a culmination of all the moving parts that made up CLUB CHAI—honoring the project's complexity and intimacy.

The writing and images within the book tend to the acts of remembering and archiving fleeting moments and feelings that come with the complete bliss of the dancefloor. The book creates a record of these emotions and experiences to be tended to with care and slowness. As a long-time collaborator, curator, and documentarian of CLUB CHAI, I brought an informed lens and intimate relationship to this project that allowed for our community to have a proper goodbye with this platform, party, and record label.
